There’s nothing quite like a sunny day out in Devon dressed in your best vintage clothing. Devon has a wonderfully diverse landscape, but this means it can sometimes be difficult deciding what to wear. For that reason, we thought we’d get you inspired with these beautiful vintage-style pictures of Devon and some tips on what to wear when you’re visiting these kinds of places.
1. A day out in Salcombe
Salcombe offers a variety of water activities, from dinghy sailing to surfing. This is a perfect excuse to bring out your favourite vintage swimsuit. A classic 1950s polka dot piece or a gingham halter-neck swimsuit would be perfect. Or, if you prefer to stay on the dry land, be sure to protect your hair and face from the coastal breeze and sunshine by wearing a vintage headscarf. To avoid the wind causing any wardrobe malfunctions, a structured pencil skirt can be a safe bet. But if all you want to do is play beach volleyball, a lightweight Rockabilly 50s playsuit is a must.
2. A Trip to Torquay
If you’re heading to the English Riviera, there’s no better vintage style to go for than nautical. You will fit in perfectly walking along the marina in a 50s anchor print frock or a retro nautical swing dress. A bright neck scarf will also add a lovely finishing touch to complete your nautical look. Keep the seaside sun out of your eyes with a pair of authentic cat-eye sunglasses and a wide brimmed sunhat. Add a navy 60s blazer or a bright 70s jacket so you can cover up when you explore Torquay’s historic Torre Abbey Monastery.
3. An excursion to Exeter
Exeter may be a small city, but there’s plenty to see. Any trip to Exeter needs a pair of comfortable vintage sandal pumps, or sturdy peep-toes. Vintage shoes always blend quality with style effortlessly, so you can flaunt your vintage city style without getting sore feet. Also be sure to take your best vintage handbag and don’t forget your purse because Exeter has lots of brilliant independent vintage shops. You can also get away with a touch of glamour when perusing the streets of Exeter. Add a vintage necklace or pearl bracelet to finish off your outfit.
